The story of Vay-castle:

The Vay-castle was built at the beginning of the 18th century in empire style.
The kuruts general had the castle built on a hill. A lordship of 6000 "hold" with herds and studs belonged to it. The building-ensemble consists of a five storied main building, a cloister building and a manége. The city at the Tisza had right to ferry, so they could collect tithes. The baron had the power of life and death so he had a cells system built under the castle. The most famous rascal who was in prison here, was "Ződ Marci". He got his name from the ladies because he got beautiful green eyes. After the fall of Rákóczi's war of independence in 1711 the castle got into labanc's hands (labanc is a nickname of pro-Austrian soldiers during the 18th century Hungarian wars of independence).

The labanc general was a drinker and he also liked to play cards so he lost his lordship quickly. It was later property of a judge from Debrecen.
After the Second World War it was the property of a lady called Radák. She was sireless so the ownership passed to the state.
The building-ensemble gone broke to 1998.
Then an entrepreneur from Debrecen saw the beauty and the opportunity in the ruins and he had the main building built to castlehotel, and the manége reconstructed to restaurant and conferencehall. After seven years resurrection the castlehotel was opened in 2005.
